Fire Safety Reminders

The Stratford Firefighters would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends dealing with the Christmas morning tragedy in the City of Stamford that claimed the lives of two grandparents and three children. The initial findings indicate that it was an accidental fire and that early warning systems may not have been in working order. There was also a fire in Torrington where it was determined that there were no batteries in the smoke detector and one man died in that fire. The devastating loss of the family in Stamford and the individual in Torrington is felt by all and we would like to remind the residents of Stratford of the importance of an early warning system, specifically operating smoke detectors.

  Tactical Rescue 5 (TAC 5)

Tactical Rescue 5 (TAC 5) is a Rescue/Pumper with a 750 gallon tank, 30 gallon Class A foam tank and 1500 GPM pump. It

has 330 cu ft of storage and will carry up to 2000ft of LDH. There are three built in hydraulic reels for extrication tools, one

150ft air reel for pneumatic tools (we are carrying industrial heavy duty tools containing the following: impact wrench, air

ratchet, reciprocating saw, and long barrel air hammer), a 10kw generator, and 3000W Light Tower.

This unit is carrying a full compliment of TNT Rescue tools to include a 32" spreader, one single stage 60 inch ram, one

two stage 60 inch ram, one combination tool and a BFC-320 cutter. This is the only cutter in the county and immediate

area capable of cutting with 320,000lbs of force and is capable of cutting through any high strength steel.

To assist with lifting during extrication this unit is carrying 5 airbags: (1) 26 ton, (1) 20 ton, (2) 1 ton, and (1) high lift, low

pressure air bag capable of lifting 3.8 tons approx 5ft.

The saw compliment on this unit consists of (1) Ventmaster Ventilation/Rapid Intervention Chainsaw, (1) 16" Cutoff saw

(capable of cutting steel, concrete, glass, lexan, and wood.), (1) Stihl Chainsaw.

Once complete we will also have a new set of Paratech rescue struts with 6 stabilizing struts capable of stabilizing up

to 80,000lbs with a 4 to 1 safety factor and 2 lifting pistons capable of lifting 20,000lbs with a 4 to 1 safety factor. TAC 5

is also carrying a full compliment of confined space rescue equipment able to equip up to 6 rescuers including all of the

rope, hardware and breathing apparatus needed for confined space operations. We look forward to building on this

resource to expand to high angle and trench equipment in the near future.

Most of the equipment now carried on this apparatus was not immediately available to us in the past and will now greatly

expand our ability to provide Fire and Rescue protection to the citizens and visitors in the Town of Stratford!

We would like to thank everyone that supported the purchase of this vehicle and would like to remind the public

that this was a demonstration model and saved the Town more than $200,000, if this piece of apparatus was

purchased new.

Please feel free to stop by Headquarters anytime so we can show you your new fire truck!
