It is with great sadness that the brothers
and sisters of IAFF Local 998 anounce the
passing of our brother
Michael C. Reilly
Mike was killed in the line of duty Sunday August 27th 2006 battling a 3 - alarm fire as a nozzle man on FDNY’s Engine 75. Also killed was FDNY Lt Howard Carplunk. prior to joining FDNY in April 2006, Mike was a member of Local 998 and the Stratford Fire Department. Mike graduated from the Connecticut Fire Academy in 2003 and was stationed at Company 1, Headquarters 2750 Main St. where he remained until put into active duty with his marine unit in Iraq. Upon his return he resumed his roll as firefighter for the town on Engine 3 at
Lordship station. In the spring of this year Mike accepted a position with the FDNY and started
the academy April 11th 2006 where he served as squad leader and graduated in the top 10 of his class. After graduation he was assigned to Engine 75 “The Animal House” in the South Bronx.
Michael, from all of us at the Stratford Fire Department you were a firefighter, a brother, and best of all a friend. Two of New York's bravest die in Bronx fire
Veteran firefighter died Monday, Rookie Michael Reilly died Sunday after blaze at 99 cent store
(New York - WABC, August 28, 2006) - A second firefighter has died battling a blaze in the Bronx, in what has been called the deadliest day for the FDNY in almost two years. On Monday, 43-year-old Howard Carpluk, a 20-year veteran, died of his injuries. Also killed: 25-year-old Michael Reilly, a rookie firefighter.
